The E&Y site is one of the best TALEO implementations. Once information is entered there only a few mouse clicks necessary to complete an additional application.

Maybe slightly better than the average Brassring ATS

INTELSAT

Company name: INTELSAT

Rating [0 – 10]: 1

ATS Type: Success Factors

Password rules [for the first level]: 1 to 10 characters, no spaces or unicode characters.

Critique:

The INTELSAT ATS site does give a new user the characteristics required for setting up a new password with a popup window on the new password field. However, that being said I think it is a pretty ironic that a satellite communications company only allows a 10 character password. The password field should allow at least 30 characters and possible even require at least 10 characters as a minimum. Poor security implementation.

Probably the worst characteristic of this ATS implementation is that my choices were not remembered from the last time I filled out an application. Ergo I have to make several repeats of required fields which I have completed many times previously. This is a grievous error. Site Score 1

CACI

Company name: CACI

URL: http://www.caci.com

URL of career Login Page:

http://careers.caci.com/

Rating [0 – 10]: 6

ATS Type: ORACLE TALEO {2 Authentications Required}

Password rules [for the first level]:

6-20 characters, at least one alpha, one number or special
and no more than three repeating characters.

Password rules [for the second level ATS]

Please note that the password must respect the following rules:

It must contain between 6 and 32 characters. Use only characters from the following set: ! # $ % & ( ) * + , – . / 0123456789 : ; ? @ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ [ \ ] _ ` abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz { | } ~
It must contain at least 1 letter(s) (ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz).
It must not contain more than 5 identical consecutive characters (AAA, iiii, $$$$$ …).
It must not contain your user name.

Critique:

The CACI site is typical of many sites in that two password are actually required. The biggest problem is the site does not tell you that or why. The first level password required for new accounts is to send you a periodic Email of matching positions. The second level of the site is the ATS and in this case TALEO.

Despite not telling the user that they need to keep track of two sets of authentication the CACI site is better than most TALEO corporate sites in that it does not force the user to fill out endless fields. Upload your resume complete a reasonable number of additional pages and your done.

It must not contain your email address.

Rating [0 – 10]: 0

ATS Type: ORACLE TALEO

Bombardier is an ORACLE TALEO sight. I must have failed to use a proper password on my initial attempt to create an account because I was then given the password criteria. Very good Bombardier.

Source tracking is not remembered between different applications.

The worst thing about the Bombardier ATS implementation is that after each application is submitted it logs you out and you have to re login to apply for another role.

Rating [0 – 10]: 2

ATS Type: Brassring

On 01/15/2016 IBM had almost 3,000 openings. I used to work for them in Dubuque, IA. That’s a different story though for another time. Although not a TALEO implementation the Brassring ATS is almost as bad. Lots of fields to fill out. Once your information is entered in the IBM ATS it takes 25 clicks to finally apply for a single job which is way below average. IBM’s ATS score 2/10

Rating [0 – 10]: 0

ATS Type: ORACLE TALEO

Vectrus recently changed their applicant tracking system to ORACLE TALEO. Here is their message on their careers page:

Vectrus just transitioned to a new recruiting system and we are excited for candidates to try the new site. To review our jobs, click the Search Jobs button located below. While looking through our opportunities, take a moment to update your profile. Or if you don’t have a profile with us, create a new one. Please note that we have a new log-in procedure. To learn how to log-in to the new system, please click the following instruction.

Did Vectrus import your profile and authentication information which they already had to their new system? Nope. That 40 minutes that you spent filling out your career information on their site was completely wasted you’ll just have to do it again. Tough.

Vectrus requires completion (each time) of a “Work Opportunity Tax Credit” which is voluntary however, it is required. You cannot proceed with out having to adjust your browser security settings to allow a popup window which you must complete. Voluntary but required what a load of crap. I would give them a negative score if it was meaningful

Vectrus gets a big zero score.

Rating Applicant Tracking Systems

This site will rate commercial applicant tracking systems (ATS) by URL from the perspective of a person applying for a job. I will assign a purely subjective rating on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being a perfect score. I am going to critique each employers implementation primarily on ease of use.

Along the way I will also publish the URL of the career login page and the rules for creating a password.

Rarely to business / commercial ATS disclose up front the rules for creating a password on their respective sites which reflects a poor implementation in my opinion. Companies should disclose on the account creation page what the criteria is for an acceptable password while user is being prompted for information.

In my opining the absolute worst commercial implementation of an ATS is unfortunately also the largest player in this market and that is Oracle Taleo. The Oracle TALEO implementation forces users to fill out dozens of fields in a rigid often quite difficult manner. If you have been working for a few decades as I have it can take 30 or 40 minutes to fill out completely your resume information the first time. Some businesses take a poor implementation of Oracle TALEO and make it worse by forcing users to use a lookup table for showing the persons University attended for example or for using their predefined job titles. If your titles doesn’t fit theirs well too bad. Better implementations of ATS will allow the user to import background information from say LinkedIn, or Indeed, or even from their resume typically in a Microsoft Word format. There are a few well designed Oracle TALEO implementations as well, I’ll point them out.
